Hiking is another of many activities you can practice in Benalmadena. In the neighbouring village, in Mijas, there is an interesting trail you can take. In Benalmadena the best routes are the Sendero de los Leñadores, the Sendero de los Cazadores or la Ruta de la Mina de Trinidad. On these trails you will discover the treasure hidden in the landscapes of Benalmadena.

This is a route, which goes through the Sierra de Mijas, starting in Mijas Pueblo and finishing on the peak of the Sierra. It is categorized of medium difficulty with some difficult parts towards the end. The approximate duration is two hours.

The path starts outside of Mijas Pueblo, direction Benalmadena, continuing we pass a mine. Afterwards we encounter a descent which leads us to Pico de Mendoza, of 1.103 metros height and then we reach Pico Mijas, of 1.130 height. From here you have impressive views to the Costa del Sol.

On the other hand, in Benalmadena exist since 1998 different routes for hiking in the Monte Calamorro area. These routes have been extended and worked on since - in 1998 there were only 6km of trails in the borough - presentlythere are 45 km of hiking routes.

We advise the following trekking routes: to the Mina de Trinidad, of five kilometres and approx. 2 1/2 hrs duration; the trail of Cazadores in the Cerro del Moro - this takes apprx. two hours to cover the 6km and the trail de los Leñadores, walking time approx. 1 1/2 hrs for three kilometres.

Furthermore, there are other trails like the Sendero de los Muertos, this consists in ascending to the Puerto de las Ovejas, taking aprox. 1 1/2hrs for 5km; the trail Sendero del Quejijal of five km which can be convered in approx. three hours and the trail Sendero del Tajo de la Sabia which is similar to the Sendero del Quejigal for the first 1 1/2km but afterwards it is different. Not excessively difficult is the Sendero del Tajo de la Sabia of 5km lenght, to be covered in approx. two hours.
