Not everything in Benalmadena revolves around beach, nightlife, entertainment and cuisine...as much as we love each and every one of those things mentioned! Benalmadena is also an interesting mixture of customs and traditions that complement what is a perfect holiday destination!
And although it may seem to the contrary, Benalmadena not only offers spectacular beaches, great restaurants and bars and majestic hotels... Benalmadena is more!
Benalmadena is what it is because of its people, those who still remain in the town and those who have ventured away from the Costa del Sol... Benalmadena is party, which is never truer than during the Benalmadena Summer Festival ('Festival de Verano de Benalmádena'), which takes place during the months of July, August and September and which combines music, events and arts of all kinds. Also note the Day of the Frog ('Día de la Rana'), in which experts talk lizards, snakes and all things reptile!
And of course, during the month of March Benalmadena celebrates the Seafood Fair ('Feria del Marisco') during which you can sample all types of culinary delights offered by the sea!
Benalmadena also worships its patrons, such as the 'Virgen del Carmen', on July 16, taking place in Puerto Marina with the image of the virgen emerging from the waters of the locality. And no mention of customs in this town is complete without mentioning Easter, the celebration of Corpus Christi or the feasts of the 'Virgin de la Cruz'. And finally we have the the night of San Juan, known for the traditional burning of effergies and bonfires on the beachfront.
